Welcome, Welcome and Welcome

We've received a flurry of new Reconciling in Christ requests over the past month, and I'm pleased to tell you that we've been able to complete the RIC process with three East Coast congregations over the last couple of weeks, including Abiding Savior in North Carolina, Bethlehem in New York and Grace of God in Delaware.

Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Fairview, NC passed a beautiful visually representative welcoming statement with a corresponding text on April 1st, 2012.
"You are welcome. Your family, children, friends, spouses and partnes are welcome. Your diversity and uniqueness are welcome... We are a diverse church united by a deep love of Jesus and a heart for service in the community. We are dedicated to being a sanctuary (safe-haven) for all of God's people."

Further north, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Baldwin, NY wrote a similarly expansive welcoming statement which the congregation passed on March 25th, 2012:
"As a community of faith, 'Living God's Word' and a whole life ministry, we embrace and learn from the diversity in our midst. We seek to meet people, including those who know only an unloving world, with God's grace. We welcome all people without regard to age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, culture marital status, addictions, sexual orientation, economic staus, ability or label. You are welcome here!"
Grace of God Lutheran Church in Millsboro, DE, decided to become Reconciling in Christ on December 4th, 2012.
As God and his love reached out to all through Christ, so we at Grace of God reach out to you without exception. And that means you!!! Christ welcomes all who come to him. All are loved by God.
As a community of God striving to be open to all people, we at Grace of God welcome all to join us in our Lutheran heritage as we struggle to better understand the mysteries of God's teachings. We believe that Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness, and we believe that the Gospel is God's gift to all people. We are also challenged by Christ to care for, to love, to undertand, and to listen to each other, regardless of age, gender identities, race, marital status, sexual orientations, physical and mental abilities, addictions, legal record, national origin, economic status, or station in life. We celebrate together our unity as God's people.
We pledge to ourselves and to all others that we will strive to live as a reconciling people, in our life together and in our outreach to the world around us.
All are welcome at Grace of God Lutheran Church!!

  1. Grace of God Lutheran Church is the only RIC congregation on the Delmarva Peninsula, and across the Chespeake Bay and east of the Baltimore/Washington, DC region. We are just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and the gay friendly Rehoboth Beach, DE. Grace of God became an official ELCA congregation in the Summer of 2011. Please join us!
